University of Maine President Clarence Little and Carolyn Colvin, Dean of Women, founded the All Maine Women Honor Society in 1925. Members of the society are distinguished leaders, scholars, and outstanding female role models, are active in community service, display MAINE spirit, and have the potential for continued service to UMaine. All Maine Women is the highest all-inclusive honor society to which a University of Maine woman can belong and AMW are pledged to uphold and promote the ideals, standards, and traditions of the University. Members can be distinguished by their special pins, sweaters and small pine tree worn on their right cheeks one day each week. Members are considered the consummate role modles for UMaine women.

Founded in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the international business honor society for AACSB-accredited schools, which are the top 5% of business school programs around the world. Inducted as students, BGS members serve in critical leadership roles in corporate, entrepreneurial, government, non-profit, and academic sectors. Members currently reside in all 50 U. S. states and more than 190 countries. Notable members include Nobel Prize winners, Olympians, inventors, CEOs of major global companies and non-profit organizations, deans of the top business schools, and others who make the world a better place at all levels of contribution through social enterprise service, and leadership. Beta Gamma Sigma is a proud member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS).

Each Spring and Fall, the Maine Business School inducts the top 20% of Graduate Students and the top 10% of Undergraduate Seniors, Juniors, and second-semester Sophomores into our local chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. This is performed at the Induction Ceremony each year.

Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) is a international honor society in education. KDP supports the university and local schools in Orono by participating in an hosting events such as: Culture Fest, World Book Day, fundraisers, etc.

We are the national honoary band service fraternity. Our goal is foster a supportive and functional environment for the university band to thrive in. We accomplish this through fundraising, maintenance, and sponsoring projects such as building the shed the marching band uses.

On December 14, 1906, eleven men, representing eight of the fraternities, met to form an organization whose purpose would be, ÔÇ£to recognize dedicated service to the University of Maine, to promote campus spirit, to keep an eye on the fraternities, and to discipline freshmen.ÔÇØ Today, more than 100 years later, the Senior Skulls continue to be an integral part of the University of Maine, although the purpose and duties of the Skulls have changed to fit the times. For example, in 1911 the Senior Skulls created the Sophomore Owls, whose purpose became the discipline of freshmen.

In 1913, the President of the Skulls called a meeting of representatives from all campus fraternities to form a viable Interfraternity Council. At that time, approval of all student groups was at the discretion of the Senior Skulls.

The Senior Skull Society continued uninterrupted until the end of World War II, when it ceased to exist for 3 years. It was revived in the fall of 1947 and to this day, remains the highest all-inclusive honor society at the University of Maine.

TodayÔÇÖs Senior Skulls are pledged to uphold and promote the ideals of Friendship, Leadership, Obligation, Academics and Dignity, as well as the standards and traditions of the University, and work to encourage congenial relationships between students, faculty and alumni. In addition, Senior Skulls also serve as an important liaison between students and the administration. Their service to the student body extends well beyond the group itself; from giving away free refreshments to students waiting in line for various sporting events, to selection of Homecoming Royalty, to a dynamic new initiative, the University of Maine Traditions Project, designed to increase undergraduatesÔÇÖ awareness of our alma materÔÇÖs rich history and varied traditions.

The Senior Skulls were founded in 1906 not only to recognize the top leaders of the incoming senior class, but also to create a group that, through its actions and connections, supports one another and promotes the University of Maine. This was true back then and it remains true today.

UMaine's chapter of Sigma Alpha Lambda strives towards reaching and maintaining academic success, improving leadership skills, and working with our community. We are currently participating in leadership workshops and working with Feeding America to raise donations to help those around us. We also develop study skills and are always connecting with each other!

The Sophomore Eagles is a tradition society that was formed in 1926 to welcome first-year women to campus and to help them adjust to college life. We are here for the students at UMaine as a guide on campus and as a helping hand. Our values are scholarship, leadership, friendliness, and participation in college activities.

Sophomore Eagles will have an application and interviews during the Spring 2023 semester for the freshman (Class of 2026) class. This year's Sophomore Eagles have already been determined, but events will be open for everyone.

The Sophomore Owls are a group of men that are dedicated to upholding various traditions of the University of Maine. They work with incoming freshman as models to easy their transition into college life. The Owls put on two major events during the year being, the Maine Day Battle of The Bands, and the Haunted Trails. Our vision is to be a positive force of impactful influence on the University of Maine campus and community. We strive to promote excellence, integrity, leadership, passion and inspirational motivation to all those around us, particularly the first year students as they transition to University life. We represent the top 1% of our class; not just in academic prowess, but in the whole person concept. We believe in deep collaboration and cross pollination within the University and surrounding communities. We intend to promote the rich history and traditions of the University of Maine while painting our indelible trail towards forward progression.

Tau Beta Sigma is a band organization that does varying service projects for the different bands on campus, as well as for our community. We raise money through fundraisers for our service projects and we also go out into the community and provide musicianship to other people.

The purposes of this organization are to maintain the feminist values central to WomenÔÇÖs, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and encourage diversity, egalitarianism, and supportive academic environments for all students. The society also promotes and facilitates activism among WomenÔÇÖs, Gender, and Seuxality Studies students. Members of Epsilon Psi (E­ØÜ┐) come from all academic disciplines and promote an interest in WomenÔÇÖs, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, research in social problems affecting all women and the LGBTQ+ community, and activism that leads to improvement in the condition of all people.

The purpose of this organization is to act as the senior military honor society at the University of Maine. The 20th Maine Honor Society seeks to aid the University community through voluntary and cooperative action. The 20th Maine Honor Society is interested in enhancing the professional development of its members and of the Cadet battalion as a whole, and seeks to install a lasting sense of pride among Maine Cadets in the military traditions of the state of Maine and the Black Bear Battalion.
