UMaine College Democrats is the space on campus for students on the left. We discuss politics, host events on campus, and help organize the students on this campus. During election season you can find us knocking on doors and hosting town halls with an emphasis on local Orono and campus politics. Year-round we focus on getting students registered to vote, promoting left ideals, and hosting a fun space for political discussion at our weekly meetings.

Mission
The Maine Peace Action Committee, consisting of University of Maine students, faculty and community members, is one of the oldest university peace and justice organizations in the United States. MPAC is concerned with issues of violence, war, inequality and injustice and with educating and acting to bring about a more democratic, equitable, nonviolent, peaceful, just, and sustainable Maine, nation and world. MPAC members not only study examples of violent injustices and the dominant systemic institutions that perpetuate these injustices today. MPAC attempts to challenge injustices through creative nonviolent resistance and to provide constructive positive alternatives necessary for a peace, just and sustainable future. This often includes organizing student, UMaine and local community service projects which confront dominant, hierarchial, power-defined authority by building alternative individual and community empowerment. A unique feature of MPAC at UMaine has been its commitment to a larger theoretical framework for understanding specific issues and struggles focusing on violence, injustice, domination, corporatism, imperialism, racism, sexism, environmental destruction, alienation, and dehumanizing education. Such a broader and deeper understanding allows us to realize how these issues and struggles are interconnected, so that we can support each other and unite for urgently needed change.

Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) is America's largest libertarian student organization. YAL's purpose is to promote liberty and freedom at the University of Maine, protect First Amendment rights for students and educate students about the libertarian philosophy.
